Pillow fit FAQ
How high should my pillow be?
Common guidance is high loft (about 13–18 cm) for side sleepers, medium (about 8–13 cm) for back sleepers and low (under about 8 cm) for stomach sleepers. A 2021 review found no universal optimal height (MDPI Healthcare). A 2026 pilot found that the best height on the back ranged from 4 to 10 cm and rose with body height (Scientific Reports).
Does shoulder width matter?
Yes. For side sleepers, broader shoulders create a larger gap between head and mattress, so you usually need a higher pillow. A soft mattress lets your shoulder sink, which lowers the height you need.
What pillow is best for hot sleepers?
Pinhole latex, gel-treated foam and breathable covers tend to retain less heat than solid memory foam.
How do we choose?
Our published rules score loft fit, feel, cooling, adjustability and allergy suitability. Commission rates are not part of the score.
