How Measured Rest works

Comfort and fit guidance, not medical advice. If you have persistent neck or shoulder pain, or snoring or sleep concerns, see a health professional.

1. The quiz

Seven questions: where you shop, main sleep position, shoulder width, mattress feel, preferred pillow feel, whether you sleep hot, and whether you have neck/shoulder discomfort on waking or allergies.

2. Target height

Your position sets a starting band: side = high (about 13–18 cm), back = medium (about 8–13 cm), stomach = low (under about 8 cm). Combination sleepers start at medium. Broad shoulders raise the target (except for stomach sleepers), narrow shoulders lower it, a soft mattress lowers it and a firm mattress raises it slightly. Research has found no single "optimal" height, so these are starting points.

3. How loft is measured

We use the brand's published height in centimetres (uncompressed, as stated by the maker). Dual-height or contoured pillows are recorded as a range (for example 7–10 cm), and adjustable pillows as their adjustable range. Where a brand publishes only "low/medium/high", we use that label and mark the cm figure as unverified.

4. Scoring

We show the top pick and a backup. Ties are broken alphabetically, so results are repeatable. Commission rates are never part of the score, and rankings are not for sale.

5. How data is verified and dated

For each pillow we record the price in AUD, the product URL, the height, the trial terms and the returns terms. Each one carries its source URL and the date checked. A field we could not confirm on a real page is shown as "Unverified – check retailer". We never estimate a price, height or trial. Result cards show when the data was checked.

6. Trials and returns

Many pillow sellers do not accept change-of-mind returns for hygiene reasons. We show this clearly on each result, because a trial is your safety net.
